It should be placed on a deep, nutrient-rich substrate that will allow spread of its long roots. At least 10 cm deep substrate is advised. The sword plant will draw most of its diet from the ground therefore it is advised to be vigilant when planting around other plants so it does not deprive them of nutrition. Characteristic of Echinodorus bleheri is its quick growth. There is no need to be cautious of cutting yellow leaves as it will unveil new leaves quite soon after.
